The pear symbolizes janie's voice throughout the novel as she searches for identity and happiness.It is under the tree, however, that Janie gegins to confus inner peace and happiness with romance. She likens her experience under the shade of the tree to marriage and Janie begins her quest for happiness through relationship. Ironically, the reader understands that janie will not discover her voice through marriage.

Summary Chapter 3: Janie went on and got married. She didnt like it that much. She went to nannnys house. She had conversations with nanna talking about marriage. How her marriage isnt true love and how she wish she had true love. She also talked about her husband and how his not really a husband to her, how bad his manners is. Later nanna died and Janie was remenicing about the old times.

Why is it important to know something about the author of a story before you begin reading it? What does it help you do? What does it help you understand?

because it shows you, thier personality and gives you a little hint on what there books might be about. It helps me realte and show my connection and intrest in the book. It helps me understand thier meaning and there message.

How are ships compared to man's wish? To be free and have freedom at once.

Why is Time capitalized? beaucause it comes once in a lifetime or rare.

What does resignation mean? Why would the Watcher turn away in resignation?

EXPLAIN what these lines mean in your own words? They mean that somebodys is trying to go some where, so he or she can get more freedom and be free to do what she or he likes and nobody would interfer with the plan.

What do you think this novel is going to be about? Probley about slavery and how slaves want freedom. They want to be free and do what normal people do, but there masters would'nt let them.
